Experience the healing power of nature therapy

The practice of forest bathing encourages you to slow down, relax and reconnect with nature by quieting the mind and awakening the senses.

Join a certified forest therapy guide for a relaxing 2.5-hour stroll through the forest in our stunning Blue Ridge Mountains. Through a series of invitations, you’ll have the opportunity to be present in the moment, deepening your connection with nature and community, and enjoying the many gifts nature has to offer. The walk culminates in a tea ceremony with snacks.

What is forest bathing?

Forest Bathing is simply a guided walk in nature. Your guide will share mindfulness practices and invitations designed to connect you more deeply to your inner landscapes, as well as the world around you. Inspired by Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese art of immersing oneself in a forest environment, forest bathing walks invite guests to spend time in nature in a way that invites healing for ourselves, our fraught ecosystems, and our community. It is true nature therapy!

This is essentially a mindful, rejuvenating walk in the forest…no actual “bathing” required.

Location:

All trails are within approximately 50mins of downtown Asheville. One of our favorite trails is accessed by driving along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway while another is located in a peaceful private Preserve. All of the trails are chosen based on the gentleness of the terrain, proximity to town, and your guide’s geographic area of expertise. The location of your walk will be disclosed after booking and depends on many factors including weather conditions, road closures, day of the week, etc. See FAQs for more info and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Private & public walks available!

Public walks are available Friday (family friendly version!), Saturday, and Sunday. You can also reserve a private walk any day of the week, set aside exclusively for you and your group…even if you’re a solo adventurer! Enjoy a unique way to practice self care and social distancing.

Private Forest Bathing Tour Price:

  • $260 total for parties of 1-4
  • $65/person for parties of 5+
  • $55/person for parties of 10+

Public Forest Bathing Tour Price:

  • $55/person
Covid Considerations

Your safety and the safety of our guides and community is of the utmost importance. To that end, we’ve taken a close look at our policies and procedures and have updated protocols for each tour, service, and experience we offer.

The following points are specific to Forest Bathing:

1Private Walks Available

Concerned about joining a public walk? No worries! Private hikes for groups of 4+ (or a flat fee of $260 for smaller groups) are available daily pending guide availability.

2Meet at the trail head

No need to worry about being in enclosed transportation with folks outside of your household. All parties arrive separately and meet at the trail head.

3Social Distancing

Social distancing is a breeze in outdoor spaces. Our guides are a friendly bunch but will refrain from hugging, hand shaking, or getting close unless necessary (injury, first aid, etc). If you encounter other folks on the trail, the guide will encourage the group to step to the side, allowing plenty of room for other hikers to pass. You’ll find plenty of room to spread out throughout the experience and group sharing sessions, if held, will take place with all participants spread 6′ or more apart. Enjoy the spaciousness!

4Masks

Masks are not required during outdoor experiences that are conducive to social distancing practices but we do expect that you bring a mask for the orientation and other moments when group members may be closer together.

5Equipment

Forest Bathing does not require the use of any equipment. If you wish to bring a small towel, yoga mat, or light outdoor cushion for sitting throughout the experience, please feel free but this is not necessary. The end of each walk  traditionally culminates with a tea ceremony. We encourage you to bring your own tea for this portion of the experience or elect to skip it.

6Your Role

We’re committed to doing our part to care for our employees, community, and guests and we cannot do it alone. As part of our shared responsibility, we expect you to: communicate clearly with us regarding any health concerns you may have; if you feel ill, have Covid related symptoms, or have recently cared for someone with Covid-19, please stay home and alert us 24hrs or more in advance when possible (we will issue you a refund in full); be patient with, understanding, and supportive of new procedures in place. These policies are meant to keep all involved as safe as possible and to support our business in remaining open!

FAQ

1What will I do

With the help of a certified guide, guests are led through a series of nature invitations during a leisurely walk on a gentle trail or pathway. The experience typically lasts two to three hours and culminates in a tea ceremony with snacks.

2What should I bring?

Bring sun protection, bug repellent, water, an open heart and mind and anything else you need to be comfortable on this short, gentle stroll. We recommend close-toed shoes and long pants.  Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and remember that layers are your key to comfort. Rain protection is essential. Please remember that temperatures in higher elevations can be significantly lower than in town and rain is always a possibility.

3Do I need a bathing suite to participate in forest bathing?

Nope! We’ll be immersing ourselves in the restorative forest atmosphere and aren’t bathing in the traditional rubber-ducky-in-the-bathtub sense. On warm days, we might have the opportunity to dip our feet in a mountain stream and a rain shower is always possible.

4Who is my guide?

Kelly Bruce has been exploring the mountains of Western North Carolina for more than 30 years and loves adventuring with her two dogs and 1960 Airstream in tow. Journalism has been the focus of her career; however, her true passion is spending time in nature and inspiring people to get outside and explore. Kelly is certified as a forest therapy guide by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, and a certified interpretive guide with the National Association for Interpretation. She holds current certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. Kelly looks forward to sharing forest bathing with those in the Asheville area.

5What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations more than 72 hrs prior to your scheduled experience are refundable minus a $10/person admin fee or you may choose a store credit for 100% of your purchase price. Cancellations between 0-72 hrs prior to your experience are non-refundable.

NOTE FOR PRIVATE GROUPS: If individual members of your party need to cancel due to Covid, we will refund that group member in full provided minimum thresholds for group size are met (ie: we have a minimum charge of $260 for private Forest Bathing sessions). These minimums ensure all experience providers, guides, instructors, etc are paid a living wage for their work. Thank you for your understanding as we strive to remain as flexible as possible in uncertain times!

6Where do the walks take place?

All trail heads are within approximately 50mins of downtown Asheville. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Private Walks: Due to the customized nature of Private Walks, we’ll tailor the trail selection to your group! An Asheville Wellness Tours concierge will reach out to you to ask:

  • What part of town you’ll be traveling from
  • Age range of your group
  • Any needs/preferences (time constraints, transportation limitations, etc)

With that information, your guide will select the best trail for your group. Tight on time? We can even offer “Urban Forest Bathing” locations that are a simple Uber ride away!
