Yoga with Goats!

Yoga with playful goats…it is just as ridiculous and amazing as it sounds. You can expect to grin, giggle, move, and flow alongside the sweetest little snuggly socialites. The goats may pull your attention away from your movement practice from time to time but they are the most adorable anchors to the present moment and can spark pure joy.

In the spring / summer, imagine moving through your sun salutation in a wide open field as baby goats frolic nearby. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and revel in the expansiveness of wide open spaces. In the fall / winter, snuggle up with these young kids in a covered event barn with a crackling wood stove to keep you all toasty.

These goat yoga classes take place on secluded, private farms tucked away in peaceful valleys and we can’t wait to share them with you!

FAQ

Do I need prior yoga experience?

Nope! The yoga session is appropriate for all levels and is a great introduction to the practice and a sweet opportunity to stretch & move even if you haven’t tried it yet. All of our instructors are accustomed to teaching to varied levels of experience and will be happy to offer modifications and prompts throughout the class.

Do I have to practice yoga?

Nope! Some people like to join simply to be in the presence of playful goats. As long as you’re not disruptive to those who are practicing, you’re very welcome to settle into the peace of goat snuggles. Some guests join and simply rest in savasana for the full hour. No judgement here!

Note that all guests must register and pay in full whether practicing or not. There is not a separate observer fee. This ensures we have enough space for all attendees, the goats, the wranglers, and your instructor.

What should I wear?

Wear loose fitting clothing, long pants, shirts with sleeves (NO tank tops! If goats jump on your back, they may scratch – especially if you have exposed, bare skin), and clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. The goats occasionally poo/pee on yoga mats and rarely do so on humans but it is possible so definitely dress accordingly!

What should I bring?

Please plan on bringing your own yoga mat or you may rent a mat in advance for an additional fee. If you’re uneasy about the potential for goat poo on your mat, a washable beach towel is a great alternative or you can use it as a mat-cover.

You’ll also want sun protection like sunscreen, hat, or long sleeves if choosing a class at Round Mountain Creamery since these classes generally take place outdoors in a sunny field. Round it out with a full water bottle, adventurous spirit, and readiness to play and you’ll be all set 🙂

What about the weather?

Weather is part of the practice! These events will be held rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, we’ll move under the cover of the open air milking barn. Don’t forget to bring an open mind and adventurous spirit! It is sure to be an experience to remember!

If Asheville Wellness Tours cancels for any reason, we will refund your purchase in full or reschedule you if you prefer.

One important note about this adventure that I cannot stress enough: I encourage you to not allow a sketchy forecast dampen your spirits. The weather here is incredibly difficult to predict and we often enjoy sunny skies when rain is in the forecast or run into a heavy downpour when we expected bright sunshine. Our instructors are wonderful at adapting the practice to the weather and it’s all part of the adventure out here! It’s all part of the practice (and the fun) if you allow it to be!

Remember that cancellations more than 72hrs prior to your scheduled experience are refundable minus a $10/person admin fee or you may choose a store credit for 100% of your purchase price and try again at a later date. If you’re looking at the forecast and dreading the adventure, you still have options! Out of respect for your guide’s time, cancellations between 0-72 hrs prior to your experience are non-refundable.

How do we get there?

You will receive detailed driving instructions in your confirmation email. You are responsible for getting yourself to/from the  farm. It is important to note that, while an Uber/Lyft may bring you to the location, they often will NOT pick you up. If you do not have transportation, we recommend reaching out to AVL Ride several days in advance of your arrival. The team there will pre-arrange round trip transportation for some of the most reasonable rates in town.

After receiving your confirmation email, please take a look at your route and estimated travel time a day or two prior so you know how to prepare. I also recommend snapping a screenshot of the directions before leaving town in case you lose cell service along the way. Driving in the mountains is different than cruising down the highway so assume the drive will take at least 10mins more than what Google Maps estimates just in case.

NOTE: the class begins NO LATER than 10mins after the start time. Parties who are 10+ mins late may be left behind and no refunds will be issued.

What is the maximum group size?

We can regularly accommodate a maximum of 30 people in the summer and 20 in the winter. If you have a larger group, please contact us for additional options.

What kinds of groups choose goat yoga classes?

This is a great option for groups celebrating special occasions like birthdays, bachelorette parties, girls getaways, retirement, and family. Goat Yoga Classes are also a nice, creative outing for corporate groups interested in unique team building experiences or those who like to balance a hectic meetings schedule with an opportunity to unplug and refocus.

Are the goats forced to participate?

No. We absolutely do not force the goats to stand on your back, snuggle you, or do tricks and ask all guests to refrain from doing so as well. Our classes are not a required performance for them but are instead an opportunity to simply enjoy being around their playful energy. The goats genuinely love to receive affection.

Who is my instructor?

All instructors hold a minimum 200hr yoga certification and a passion for sharing the story of Asheville and our stunning Blue Ridge Mountains. Following your experience, please consider your local guide a resource! They love to chat about unique approaches to wellness, our wild natural world, and have allllll the recommendations for what to do around town.

Are these goat yoga classes family-friendly?

Any children under the age of 18 will need a parent/guardian present to sign their liability waiver. For families with children 10 and younger, please contact us to schedule a Private Goat Yoga session any day of the week.

Can I bring my pet?

No. We love your fur babies too but pets of any kind are not allowed on the farm. You may encounter our loveable watch pups while you are here. Please let us know in advance if you are afraid of dogs.

Are goats going to poop on me?

Maybe! The goats will nibble your clothes, belongings, hair, everything! And they might poop. Luckily, they have small pellets that can be easily shaken from your mat (or your back!!). Please dress appropriately.

What is the cancellation policy?

For regularly scheduled, public classes:

Cancellations more than 72 hrs prior to your scheduled experience are refundable minus a $10/person admin fee plus any fees charged by our local partners or you may choose a store credit for 100% of your purchase price. Cancellations between 0-72 hrs prior to your experience are non-refundable.

For private groups and custom class times:

Full group cancellations more than 14 days in advance of your scheduled experience are refundable minus a $25/person administrative fee plus any fees charged by our local partners. Out of respect for the guide’s time, full group cancellations from 14-0 days prior to your scheduled service are non-refundable.

Group size decreases will be accepted up to 72hrs prior to your scheduled experience with no penalty as long as minimum group size thresholds are met. Out of respect for your guide’s time, group size decreases between 72-0 hours prior to your scheduled experience are non-refundable and no store credits will be issued within that window.

Your Role: If you feel ill, are experiencing Covid-related symptoms, or have been in contact with a person with a confirmed case of Covid 19 in the past two weeks, please stay home and let us know as soon as possible. Our stated cancellation policy will still apply. If you are concerned about the risks of last minute cancellation, please consider taking out travel insurance.

These policies ensure all experience providers, guides, instructors, etc are paid a living wage for their work. Thank you for your understanding as we strive to remain as flexible as possible in uncertain times!

Should I tip my instructor?

Tips are never obligatory but are always appreciated. If you feel you had a wonderful experience, the average amount shared is $5-10/person.

Another way to show your appreciation is to share a review of your experience online and give your hardworking guide a shout-out. Your kind words mean more than you know! You can find us on TripAdvisor or Google.

Where do goat yoga classes take place?

We utilize several locations for goat yoga practice depending on the season.

Regularly Scheduled Classes: In the winter (Nov – Feb), all classes take place in the cozy event barn at Franny’s Farm, approximately 30 mins from downtown Asheville. In the summer months (March – Sept), you may find yourself at Franny’s Farm here and there but most classes take place in an open field at Round Mountain Creamery, a peaceful, working farm in Black Mountain approximately 45 mins from downtown Asheville.

Private classes take place primarily at Franny’s Farm but may also be held at a local brewery or winery for an additional charge.

How big are the goats?

Great question! The answer is that it depends – on the time of year, whether and when babies have been born, which farm you’re visiting, and tons of other unpredictable bits. Because we partner only with working farms who aren’t breeding solely for goat yoga (a lot of farms who have babies constantly are not doing so with great care for the goats’ well being), we have the pleasure of witnessing many of the goats growing up right alongside our classes.

Babies at Round Mountain Creamery, a farm focused on dairy operations with a more predictable schedule, are typically born in mid-March and remain snuggly into late May at which point they become more playful and energetic. In July/August, they’re adolescents. At Franny’s Farm, all of the goats are rescued or taken in from other locations and there’s not as much of a predictable pattern. That said, though, another round of babies may arrive at Franny’s in late summer or early fall so snuggles sometimes persist well into the winter. SO cute.

Know that the goats can weigh up to 60lbs. Please always feel free to call us to ask about the size of the goats at the various farms! This is the best way to know for sure what to expect.
